Child abuse can come in many forms just like intimate partner violence. However, the most common form of abuse is neglect. There are two types of neglect emotional and physical neglect. Emotional neglect is when a care taker of a child is unemotional, unsupportive, not expressing feelings, not giving compliments, not respecting the feelings and opinions of the child. Physical neglect is not providing the things needed for the child to thrive, such as care, food, shelter, clothing, education, and other such things. Physical neglect is often the most reported next to physical abuse. Child are not like abuts often time (most notable for Emotional neglect) the signs of abuse can be over looked. With that said neglect of both kind is often present in homes of psychical, sexual, and emotional abuse. Lastly one of the single largest predictors of child abuse is intimate partner violence.
Stealing or begging for food
Often absent or tardy from school
Lack of caregiver supervision
Has habit disorders (such as rocking, sucking)
How to protect children.
Talk to child
Talk to school
Talk to someone in child protective services.
Make sure the child knows it is not their fault.
